In order to ensure that children are getting at least one nutritious meal per day, HEPAC opens its doors and serves lunch to roughly 100 students per day.
This practice was started over 30 years ago by the mothers of the local children. They began noticing that their children were bringing their friends home for lunch. The mothers united and started giving out sack lunches to the less fortunate kids in the area. Over time, more and more students began to arrive looking for a healthy meal.
With the help of other volunteers in the community, they were able to buy the land that HEPAC now sits on and provide lunch to all elementary and middle school children who need it.
